When a Mississippi zoo needed reliable level measurement of their tiger exhibit pool, they turned to Flowline. Few Bengal tigers remain in the wild, and the zoo’s breeding program plays a key role in their conservation. The veterinary team says stress is the most critical factor in breeding success or failure, and nothing burns tiger stress faster than water play. But when 700 pound animals hit the pool, they can generate 2′ waves with lots of splashing. During which, the prior float level switches would chatter the fill valve, reducing the valves life and causing water hammer. The maintenance manager wanted a reliable non-chattering solution that could replace their float switches as an input to the PLC. For this reason, Flowline suggested our UG03 ultrasonic sensor with four embedded relays, control and dampening logic. The ultrasonic sensor relay set points were placed at the same level as the float switch set points, and the dampened logic eliminated the chatter to the PLC. Flowline is reliable level measurement. |
