When a Southwest hospital needed reliable level measurement of their laundry wastewater tanks, they turned to Flowline. The hospital cleans 250k lbs. of laundry a week through twelve commercial machines. After each wash cycle, the machines pump the wastewater through a filter and into a tank, awaiting transfer to treatment. There a tech was hired to configure the pump logic in their PLC. He soon realized the DL14 ultrasonic sensor measured well when the level was in the straight side wall, but became unstable when it dropped into the cone. Once he understood why, he said, “I need to reliably measure the upper 2/3 of the tank and actuate the pump to near empty in the cone. What are my options?” After some discussion, he chose to span the straight side wall only, and turn the pump off 5 seconds after the level reaches the bottom of the span during pump down. While not elegant, it works and avoided a costly redesign. The ultrasonic sensors provide reliable level data to the PLC which monitors and controls the pump transfers. Flowline is reliable level measurement. |
