When a Hawaiian sugar cane processor needed reliable level measurement of their wastewater recovery tanks, they turned to Flowline. The firm extracts and clarifies cane juice into a thick sugar syrup. In so, harvested cane is washed, chopped and pressed through heavy rollers that squeeze out juice consisting of 70% water, 15% sugar and 15% plant material. Then lime is added and the juice is heated to remove the impurities through coagulation, settling and filtration. The leftover impurities are pumped into several wastewater recovery tanks below the process equipment. There the IC&E technician had tried ultrasonic, pressure and float level sensors with bad results. Foam made ultrasonic intermittent and pressure and floats became clogged in muck. For these reasons, Flowline suggested our non-contact 80-GHz radar sensors that are unaffected by foam, vapor or coating wastewater, laden with solids. The radar sensors provide reliable level data to the PLC, which monitors the tanks, and controls the pump transfer to treatment. Flowline is reliable level measurement. |
