When a Hawaiian sugar cane processor, needed reliable level measurement of their syrup tanks, they turned to Flowline. The firm grows, harvests, crushes, extracts and stores clarified sugar juice in bulk tanks, where it cools into syrup. There the I&C tech explained that prior ultrasonic level sensors were unreliable in this application due to the foam generated, during and shortly after the tanks being filled. He said, “That’s when I need these sensors most. I can’t park an operator over there to watch those tanks. This isn’t daycare. I need reliable non-contact measurement that works through agitation and foam. In addition, I want to add indicators to display syrup height in feet, actuate high and low level alarms, and send the signal to my PLC.” For these reasons, Flowline suggested our non-contact LR80 80-GHz radar sensor that’s unaffected by agitation and foam, coupled with our controller. The radar sensors provide reliable level data to the controllers which display in syrup feet height, repeat the signal to the PLC, and control alarms. Flowline is reliable level measurement.
