Non-Invasive Wastewater IBC Radar Level Measurement

When a North Am aerospace firm needed reliable non-invasive level measurement of their IBC totes, they turned to Flowline. They produce specialized materials that are used in airplanes, satellites and weapons. Manufactured at relatively low scale, their waste streams are pumped into IBCs, and then trucked weekly to offsite treatment. There the facility manager had logistics issues associated with using contact level sensors in portable tanks. He said, “We rotate the tanks out every 2-3 days and that includes having to remove, clean and re-insert the low-level switches into the empty tanks. How can I measure level through the tank top, and completely separate the sensors from the tanks?” For this reason, Flowline suggested our 80-GHz radar sensors, that when mounted above a plastic or fiberglass tank, non-invasively mesure through the top. They then fabricated a hinged arm that allows them to easily reposition a sensor from one tank to another, or move a sensor out of the way during forklift tank swap. The radar sensors provide reliable level data to the PLC, which monitors the IBC’s and alarms for IBC swap. Flowline is reliable level measurement.
