Chrome plating is the process of electroplating a thin layer of chromium onto a metal or plastic object. Chrome is desirable because its decorative, provides corrosion resistance, is easy to clean and increases the surface hardness of covered parts. The plating process includes various etching chemicals such as hydrochloric, hydrofluoric or sulfuric acid. Plating baths are heated and the resulting evaporation causes levels to continuously drop. From a level perspective, plating is a challenging application due the extreme corrosive nature of the media. Even the waste streams are corrosive and care must be taken in selecting compatible equipment for associated waste sumps. Here, a Smart Trak with compact relay controller is installed in each waste pump lift station. Constructed entirely of rugged polypropylene, the multi-point level switch and control system, provides a total solution for automatically emptying the sump into waste treatment for neutralization.
