When a Northwest aircraft manufacturer needed reliable level measurement of their foaming waste tanks, they turned to Flowline. The firm degreases and acid washes their metal parts prior to surface finishing. The resulting waste streams are pumped to several tanks outside the building, awaiting their turn for water treatment. The media is corrosive, foaming, greasy and filled with metal shavings. There the IC&E engineer said, “Pressure level sensors haven’t done well here due to corrosion and particulates, and despite installing ultrasonic sensors in standpipes, we still get foam or bubbles in them, and that’s caused problems. What do you recommend that’s going to both perform and last here?” For these reasons, Flowline suggested our non-contact 80-GHz radar sensor that are made of PVDF, and whose measurement is unaffected by foaming, agitated wastewater. The radar sensors provide reliable level data to the PLC, which monitors the tanks and controls their transfer to water treatment. Flowline is reliable level measurement. |
