Livestock can live up to two weeks without food, but only three days without water. In dry arid climates, water well storage tanks provide a critical buffer against rainfall and water table variability. Sadly, parts of the United States go months or even years with little or no rainfall, placing heavy burdens on ranchers and their precious livestock. In these communities, climate change has necessitated the use of deep ground water pumping stations with large storage tanks as the primary means of supporting their water needs. At this Texas cattle ranch, an EchoSpan ultrasonic level transmitter is installed on a water well bulk storage tank. The non-contact sensor provides continuous level data to the pump controller, which in turn, actuates the pump to refill the tank when it reaches 50% of capacity. EchoSpan is reliable well water storage level measurement.
