Thermo-Flo™ Liquid & Gas Flow Switch

Application

Offered in liquid and gas sensor types, the general purpose flow switch provides reliable low or no-flow detection of relatively clean, non-coating media with one 1A relay output. Liquid examples include water and acetic acid. Available in Polypropylene-Ryton® and PVDF, the short flow sensor is used in pipe or ducting from 1/2" to 1 1/2", and the long flow sensor is used in 2" and up. The flow switch set point may be adjusted from 0.04 to 3 fps in liquids, or 1 to 90 fps in gases as a low-flow alarm. The flow sensor is best applied in applications with relatively constant temperature.

Features

Rugged Polypropylene-Ryton® or PVDF sensor for corrosive liquids and gases

Adjustable set point with LED for flow or no-flow status indication

60VA relay selectable NO or NC via power supply wiring polarity

Solid state sensor is not damaged by over-ranging flow velocities

Chlorine Dioxide Water Flow Detection

The global drinking and wastewater treatment chemicals market is forecast to reach $23.9 billion by 2015. One wastewater treatment chemical that has become a darling of the industry since its introduction in the 1940's is chlorine dioxide. Although primarily used for bleaching of wood pulp, chlorine dioxide is heavily used in the disinfection of municipal drinking water. Approximately 700 to 900 public water systems use chlorine dioxide to treat potable water. It is more effective as a disinfectant than chlorine in most circumstances against water borne pathogenic microbes such as viruses and bacteria. At a water treatment plant, a Thermo-Flo FT10 flow switch is applied inline to detect the infusion of chlorine dioxide for a water purification application. Should the flow switch sensor detect a velocity change due to the increase or decrease of liquid flow as sensed by a thermal change. Then the switch would open (NO) or close (NC) predicated upon the application installation requirements. Thus, informing the water plant operator that chlorine dioxide is no longer being pumped into the water purification application. It's water safety made simple as "We Do Your Level Best".

Emergency Eye Wash Flow Detection

Water treatment plants use numerous chemicals that are hazardous to eyes, skin, lungs and other internal organs. Chemicals such as Ferric Chloride, Copper Sulphate and Sodium Hypochlorite are just some of the common hazardous substances inside wastewater treatment facilities that can impair the human body. When harmful chemicals are in use, it is required that there be at least one emergency shower/eye wash station. The reliability of this emergency equipment is vital to the protection of operators in a caustic environment. The first few seconds after exposure to a hazardous chemical are critical. Delaying treatment, even for a few seconds, may result in irreparable tissue damage. If you are in a caustic chemical environment, never hesitate to use safety equipment if needed. In this application a wastewater treatment facility uses a Thermo-Flo FT10 to detect flow of clean water as it moves across the sensing tips. As flow is detected the sensor sends information to a SCADA which interprets the signal as an emergency, alerting supervisors that a chemical accident has taken place. Management can then form a plan of action for containment and clean up within seconds.
