Seaweed farming, the practice of cultivating and harvesting seaweed, has become the fastest growing segment of the aquaculture market, with Japan, China and Korea leading the way. The most common seaweed’s are gelidivum, pterocladia, porphyria and laminaria. Most of which are used as food ingredients or dietary supplements in health products. Grown from algae to mature plants, seaweed is widely produced on land in open top tanks with basic filtration and life support systems. From a level perspective, managing the effects of sun evaporation or significant rainfall are the primary concerns. Here, an EchoPod ultrasonic level transmitter is bracket mounted over each aquaculture tank. The non-contact sensor provides continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, automatically refills the tanks, or turns on alarms in the event of a high level condition. EchoPod is reliable seaweed aquaculture level measurement.
