Commercial HVAC systems are an integral part of our every day lives. They create and maintain safe, healthy and comfortable working environments. No where are reliable heating and ventilation systems more critical than in our nations hospitals, where the quality of patient healthcare, their medicines and food are dependent upon temperature. Here, system downtime can lead to tragic outcomes. At this Northeast hospital, an EchoSpan ultrasonic level transmitter is installed in a stand-pipe within each of their cooling tower sumps. The non-contact sensors provide continuous level data to their PLC, which in turn, periodically refills the sumps water loss that’s caused by evaporation. A stand-pipe installation was chosen to separate the sensor’s point of measurement from the agitation that results from water cascading down through the tower. EchoSpan is reliable hospital cooling tower level measurement.
