Annually, processed food sales are approximately $3.2 trillion globally and $1 trillion in the USA. Americans will spend 10% of their income on processed foods in 2011. With new food safety regulations, the Food Safety Modernization Act, passed by Congress this year inventory management has never been more important. Nowhere is continuous level measurement more important than in the precise measurement and storage of byproducts for the production of processed foods. Why, because byproducts can contain toxins. If they are not properly stored and disposed of they can become a breeding ground for pathogenic micro-organisms. Accurate level measurement is important to prevent overflow and contamination of food grade products. Hefty fines can be levied if food is found to be contaminated.

At this food processing plant an EchoPod® DL14 is detecting levels of food waste to allow for free flow of waste into a sump when it is not full, and communicate with a PLC to prevent more waste from entering the sump when it is full. The EchoPod® DL14 has four (4) programmable relays for switch, pump or valve control as well as fail-safety and short 2" dead band optimized for small tanks. This makes the EchoPod® DL14 a perfect solution for small sumps and process tank level applications.
